hello. i just read your blog about the boycott on the Golden Compass. i honestly could not agree with you more. as i was reading it and saying “exactly!!” to myself, it kinda hit me.. our christian god is not the only god in the world, i don’t think. i’m fairly certain there’s a god worshipped in asia, and there’s one in the middle east, and there might be one or two that other cultured people believe in somewhere else in this world… ok i haven’t studied a whole lot about other religions, but i imagine their god is similar to our god, one who is almighty and a creator of heaven, blah blah blah… are the people who worship other gods as offended as many christians are? who’s to say he’s talking about the christian god? again, i haven’t read a whole lot about the author of the books, i just read your blog and a quick review where i found your blog on facebook, and that’s all i’ve heard.

well let’s see. sir i’m sorry but you can not compare a child’s movie to a movie targeted for adults, and your telling me that if i go see american gangster, that it makes it alright to let LITTLE children watch a movie about killing god, do you realize what your saying? of all the people this man could have directed such a movie to, he directs torwards little children, i’m sorry but that is very wrong, because children always tend to believe what they watch on tv and in movies, the author of this book will have alot to answer for, but can you honestly sleep at night, knowing your supporting somethin that denys god? sir if you can live with it then thats your business, but you better believe i will stand up for whats right even if i am standing alone, this generation is tolerating too much, and god’s patience will run out sooner or later, and you will have to answer for all those children’s souls that went to watched that movie and believed what they saw, just because it may be a longer and harder road to stand up for whats right, and even if i do become hated by many, at least i will be able to live with myself and answer for the mistakes i have made. it is not your place to judge me or how true i am to my faith, just by if i go watch american gangster or not, only one man can judge me, and the man who wrote that book, will have to answer for it, but i do pray god shows mercy on us before it’s too late, because it says in the bible TOLERATING IS A SIN. and sir, in your blog you are putting of the impression to tolerate this movie, all i can do is pray for you and i promise you i will, and all the people who are gonna go see such a movie, because it is truely sad that this generation’s biggest sin isn’t killing, or sex beofre marriage, or anything like that, it’s our tolerance to let such things in our homes.it still puzzles me. of all people he could have directed it to, why children?

and one other thing sir, everyone can see what american gangster is about, their are no hidden messages and if you don’t have the sense enough to know its wrong then thats your fault, not mine for not warning you, but the author of this book and movie hid the message about killing god and then directed his movies straight torwards kids.

We havejust finished reading your self-contradicting blog about boycotting movies. We believe that warning people about atheist movies is what Jesus would want us to do. You said it is not okay to go see a pornograhic movie, just for a topic of conversation with a non christian. Therefore you should also agree that is is a bad idea to let the “anti-god” themes of the movie into your head. Pressure my friend has brought many a strong christian, so we warn any of the people, christian or nonchristian, who are reading this right now to beware of The Golden Compass.
In Christ’s love,
Cindy and Gracie

I totally agree with you about tHE GOLDEN COMPASS. People seem to thin their faith is so fragile, maybe if someone is a new christian – but to me seeing THE GOLDEN COMPASS is not beter or worse than reading the Koran or some book about Buddism. Just cause i read a book does not mean i am going to “fall” into its teachings and accept them as my own. I am a youth minister and geting my masters from Hardin-simons university right now and I honestly do not know what to tell my youth. I dont want to tell them to watch it but something also make me not want o tell them not too watch it; I have yet to say something either way. Honseslty, I want to see it. It is kinda funny that everyone is speaking of a “hidden” theme to this movie – but obviously it is not hidden if we know about it. I guess warnign about the theme is not bad… but saying that its a sinful movie.. I dont know. If the theme or idea is sinful them we have tons of books we have to burn as well… and movies… and most of the internet. Where does it all stop? Should we all become monks? Personally, I want to go see this movie so I can know.. and if you kid wants the book just say “no”. I have more i could say but this is getting long.

Just a note. Are you aware that these comments are incredibly hard to read? Small, white type on black background – I can barely see it. This might be interesting reading but I’ll never know.

I just read your blog on boycotting TGC and I loved it. I’m a Christian myself and there are a lot of Christians out there who get worked up about a lot of things w/o putting a great deal of thinking into it (I refer to these Christians as “close-minded Christians”). I cannot begin to describe how many ridiculous arguments I had with my parents just so I could read the Harry Potter books (btw, I’m 19, maybe that’ll give an idea of the ridiculousness). My pastor spoke agaisnt the books and my parents just basically wne with his opinion, w/o even reading the books. My pastor also spoke against the Da Vinci Code, but my mother had no problem with the Da Vinci Code b/c she had read it prior to that particular sermon. This definitely proves your point on how you can’t talk about something like this w/o reading/watching it yourself. It’s nice to see another Christian out there who is very open minded. I believe Christians should be open minded about everything, especially with controversies such as this. I say this because I believe Jesus was open minded when He died for us on the cross.
